Day ONE – yay!

CupcakeYes indeed here we are day one of the 2022 Community Festival – with already a good turnout for the Health Watch stall in our Market Square. I am looking forward to the Craft Fair at the STMA this evening at 6.00 pm – a new fair from River Dream events who also bring you the Garage Sale Trail on Sunday.

In the meantime enjoy the Scarecrow Festival and do have Theatre Fun at the Methodist Church from 4.00pm today – then tomorrow don’t forget to join me at Digswell field for a free Tai Chi beginners class at 9.30 after you have collected your cupcake from Rose’s at Duck Lane – remember your “Shefford 100” voucher from LivingLife!

eatfeast at the Shefford Community FestivalWe always look forward to a bit of tasty street food from the guys at EATfeast when they visit Pamoli Square behind the library. I always have difficulty choosing what to have so end up taking my time to scope out all the stalls and chat to fellow “foodies”.  Saturday afternoon on the 24th from about 4.00pm is the time to be there so I hope you all enjoy what is on offer.

St Michaels Church Shefford

10.30 -2.30  on Saturday 24th there is a Church Trail visiting all four churches – Catholic, St Michael’s, Methodist and Baptist Churches and completing a quiz. Shefford Methodist ChurchFind out more about the Churches in Shefford by visiting each one. You can start at any one and visit them in any order. Quiz sheets are available at each church. First Aid demos

Green line Medical

Interesting for people with a personal or professional interest in first aid –  Greenline Medical Services will demonstrate a variety of First Aid Skills adjacent to their offices on the Clifton Road ( so not like the picture!) – with Tours of their Land Rover and Mercedes Ambulances, and some First Aid Games.

Free to attend on Sat/Sun 17/18 and 24/25

See their website here.

We send our condolences to all who mourn the passing of the queen – and reflect that there are many differences between queen Elizabeth II and King Charles lll

Like many of us, he too has given voice to the need for social change – in our own small way we seek to improve life for the community in Shefford and wait to see if the change of sovereign brings positive change to the country.

We certainly live in  “interesting times” with a global groundswell that calls for both more international integration and at the same time for more nationalism – perhaps a workable balance will develop.

Our Community Festival seeks to facilitate those who would like to reach out to the community and engage on a social level for the benefit of all – on that basis we will continue as planned and invite event organisers to do the same. For myself, I was born in the year of the queen’s coronation, and look forward with the hope that our efforts as a community today may yet leave a better world for our children tomorrow.

Best wishes to all – Ian ( Festival Organiser)

Shefford Craft Fair is a completely new event this year on September 16th 6-9pm at the STMA hall with FREE ENTRY.

As organiser Lesley Whiteman explains “Come and do some early Christmas shopping or treat yourself! The STMA bar will be open (to non-members as well as members) so why not have a social shopping evening with your friends!”

Sounds great! We like the idea of that as Shefford is in the centre of all the villages from Hitchin to Bedford and Biggleswade to Flitwick, so it is convenient to many people in the area.
