A personal favourite is the annual Art Exhibition at the Community Hall where we can browse (and sometimes buy) and consume a coffee and cake. The Art Exhibition has been a mainstay of Shefford events for as long as I can remember showing the artistic talent residing in our town. A lovely show so do go along on Saturday 21st and/or Sunday 22nd from 10.00 to 4.00pm
Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd our local Bowls Club will hold their annual finals and open day activities – on the green opposite the STMA 10.30 – 3.30pm both days. So for a lazy watch or a gentle try out then that is the place to go!
I for one am really pleased at the way community events are gaining traction here in Shefford – so now we have a Community Market as part of the Community Festival – the Market run by Lesley Whiteman (of River Dream Events) on behalf of the town council takes place on the second Saturday of each month and so will be held on Saturday 14 September from 9.00 – 1.00pm with up to 21 stalls running between Morrisons ( Pamoli Square) and the High Street, offering a diverse mix of products including consumables, crafts and local community fundraisers/awareness stalls.
From 2.00 pm on Sunday 22nd September the STMA will run an afternoon of Family Fun with free play for the family. Entertainment is free, refreshments will be available. Contact Rob Slater 07545189233, [email protected].
Shefford Community Hall is a mainstay of local activities from line dancing and Tai Chi to kids birthday parties – the ethos of the hall committee is to maintain a balance of income over expenses so as to ensure that the hall is an affordable venue for Shefford residents. It also serves the community at times of elections and other communal events.
The hall has recently undergone a major upgrade with suspended ceiling to house a heating and air conditioning system plus a hearing loop and an audio-visual screen+projector. Residents are invited to visit and view the newly equipped hall while attending this year’s AGM which will take place at the Hall (adjacent to Lemon Plaice) as part of the Community Festival from 7.30 pm on Friday 13th Sept when all are welcome – we expect some nibbles and beverages.
5.30 – 8.00pm Shefford Lower School will host Tumbling and Cheerleading Taster Classes. Learn to cartwheel and tumble 5.30-6.30pm and from 6.00-8.00pm try cheerleading, tumbling, stunting, jumps and dance choreo! All welcome from 5 years+ Free. Two of our longstanding signature events are the Garage Sale Trail and Scarecrow Festival – which both have registration deadlines coming up. We are getting closer to the community festival and activity organisers need to move ahead with their admin so that we can all enjoy their events.
So if you would like to join the Garage Sale Trail you can do so here to have a stall in your driveway or if you want to put a scarecrow on your front step then please do register now by contacting Joanna Wright at [email protected]. Participate for free – or call her on
